The Original

The year, 1974. Coach Emory Bellard was coming into his 3rd season as the Aggie football coach, Waylon Jennings reached number one on the country charts for the first time with "This Time", and on June 15 the Dixie Chicken opened its doors for the first time.

Shortly after, The Original Dixie Chicken shirt debuted. A soft yellow tee with the, soon to be iconic, Bird logo and "DIXIE CHICKEN" emblazoned on the front. Worn by employees, they quickly became a fan favorite and the first shirt available to purchase by customers who walked through our swinging doors.

Former employee Ken Cooper liked to dress his up with a bowtie and jacket, while Ann Ganter wore hers down in Lajatas with daughter Jennifer in tow.
